The Swype Beta Details
We are (finally) pleased to announce the limited availability of Swype Beta for Android™. Thanks for being patient over the past year as we've been focused on improving the product and preparing for our launch with multiple phone manufacturers and carriers.
1. The Swype Beta Details
This beta version will expire after 3 months as we will provide periodic updated versions that will include new features and functionality.
The beta software supports phones with HVGA (480h x 320w), WVGA (800h x 480w) and WVGA854(854h x 480w) screen sizes.
The beta software has built-in dictionaries for English, Spanish, and Italian. We plan on releasing other languages at a later time, but the download file would be too large to include more languges right now.
For security reasons you can only download the beta software a limited number of times.
This is a BETA and is not a fully functional version of Swype. Specifically, it only has English, Spanish, and Italian and we have an editing method which is not supported in a downloadable version. Also, we have found that to truly integrate a soft keyboard on a phone, it needs to be pre-loaded. Thus, you may experience some aberrant behavior. Again, this is a BETA.
The beta is open to all phones using Android which DO NOT already have Swype pre-installed by the phone manufacturer / carrier.
If you have Swype pre-installed on your phone DO NOT attempt to install this beta of Swype!
2. Why the restriction on the number of participants and is it only available on Android Phones?
Well, we're still small so we're concerned that if too many people participate we will be overwhelmed.
Over the course of 2010-11 we will be supporting other devices and operating systems and might expand beta programs to those devices and operating systems.
3. How will this work?
After registering below you will be emailed a link to the Swype Beta Installer. You need to read the email on your phone to download Swype Beta Downloader to your phone.
We will verify your phone's hardware and software to confirm that Swype will work on your phone. We will not, and cannot, access any personal information (i.e. contacts, telephone numbers, etc) from your phone.
4. What do we expect from you?
We encourage you to provide feedback on the forum, suggest things you'd like to see, tell us things you don't like, or simply rant or rave. And remember this is a Beta so expect the unexpected...
5. What can you expect from us (will Swype be providing any support?)
This is a limited distribution beta (use at your own risk!) for mobile phones which use Android and as such no support is implied or guaranteed.
If you have issues or notice bugs, please post something on the Swype forum or email androidbeta@swype.com. When we can respond, we will respond.
NOTE: Neither your carrier nor your handset manufacturer will be able to help you if you have issues, so please don't bother them!
